Home, Sweet Home

21 Nov

It’s been a very long and tiring weekend.  I had a great time, even though our team didn’t place, and I am so incredibly proud of all of our teams and solo dancers.  Everyone worked very hard, and danced hard.  I’m exhausted right now, so this is really all I can muster, but it was a great Oireachtas for the O’Connor School.  🙂

Oireachtas 2010- Day 2

21 Nov

Too tired today to make any kind of actual post, so it’s mostly pictures from here on out.  Our 15& over A team placed 4th (awesome), the B team which I was on, sadly, did not place, but we danced our butts off and it felt great. Our U15 team placed 12th, our U10 girls placed 6th and our U10 mixed team placed 6th.  Overall 4/5 teams placing isn’t bad, right?  😉  I’m very proud of The O’Connor School of Irish dance today.

Oireachtas – Sacramento Day 1

20 Nov

This morning, we started off at Starbucks for breakfast.  Originally I had planned on bringing the makings of peanut butter sandwiches but sadly, the food did not make it through the packing process.  After breakfast, we spent most of the day watching the younger dancers. Around 1pm we decided to venture out to find lunch, and ended up at a place called Ambrosia Cafe in downtown Sacramento.

I ordered the pasta salad with edemame, panchetta and almonds in a lemony sauce. It was delicious.

The cafe was right around the corner from the State Capitol building.

Yay!

Now, I’ve got curlers in part of my hair, and I am exhausted.  Totally ready for bed so I can get up bright and early tomorrow for our teams.  There should be more pictures tomorrow 🙂

Golf Ball = Love

FYI: This was supposed to post last night. However, wordpress decided it didn’t need to be posted, and held it as a draft instead.

It’s really starting to sink in that the Oireachtas is a week away.  I had dance today from 12:15-2:45 and we’ve got practice again tomorrow from 1-4. During practice today, my left arch started to cramp up, so the first thing I did when I got home was steal a golf ball from Travis’ car and rolled my feet over it.

Why I haven’t done this before is beyond me.

Travis is out of town this weekend, and we need to go grocery shopping, so last night I decided to order food in from Bossa Nova.  I love Bossa Nova, the food is great, but, sadly, the quality does not translate to their delivery. You’d think I would know this by now, but I seem to forget, because I’ve ordered delivery from them several times, always with the same results.  The food comes almost cold, and it takes forever!

Anyway, tonight’s dinner was the leftover Beef Stronganoff from Bossa Nova last night.  It was just ok, and I’m still hungry 😦 Do you have any delivery disasters?

I’ve got a 6 miler planned for tomorrow morning, before dance. Fingers crossed this works. I’ve really been slacking on my long runs, and I want to make sure I not only get through dancing next weekend, but also don’t totally derail my half marathon training.

I picked up some epsom salt on my way home tonight, so I plan on soaking before bed.

What are your post work-out rituals?

Eyes, Movies, Dance!

10 Oct

Yesterday morning I headed out for my first “long run” of my Phoenix half-marathon training.  We ended up walking almost all of our 7 miler, but I’m just glad we got out there and made the distance.  My IT band was super tight and sore, so when I got home I stretched it out.

I had an eye appointment at 1pm which I was really excited about because I hadn’t had my eyes checked in two years, and I’d broken my glasses so…yeah, hadn’t been wearing them. =X  I’m near sighted, but my right eye is stronger than my left, so I have a different RX in each eye.  It’s not terrible, just a small prescription, but it does make a difference.  My new eye doctor is really nice (and also very handsome,) and my prescription had changed.  In fact, my eye is better, so my prescription went down a bit! Yay!  I ordered my new glasses, and they fixed my old pair so I would have something to wear in the week or so that I’ll be waiting on my new glasses.

When I got home, my friend Allie sent me a text asking if I wanted to see NEVER LET ME GO with her that evening. I’d been wanting to see it, so I said of course, and we planned to meet to see a 9pm showing.

For dinner, we roasted a chicken and had some cous-cous, it was good, but I wish we’d had something else to add to the dish.

When I got to the theater, I tried to purchase my ticket, only to find out the show was sold out!  We went to the little bar next to the theater for a drink and decided to see THE SOCIAL NETWORK at 10:40pm instead.  Allie had already seen it, but it was really the only other movie we both were really excited about.  I do want to see IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY, but I wasn’t really feelin it last night.  I was super disappointed we couldn’t see NEVER LET ME GO.

I was pleasantly surprised by THE SOCIAL NETWORK.  After hearing all the hype, I was somewhat skeptical, but it was good!  Also, Andrew Garfield is totally adorable, so that helped 🙂

This morning I was supposed to go on a hike with the girls, but getting home around 1:30am and not sleeping very well, I decided to skip and sleep in.  While I was sleeping in I had a voice mail from my Irish dance teacher, and after calling her back, I agreed to take a place in one of our teams again this year at the Oireachtas (regionals).  I can’t believe I’m doing this again, but the competition is up in Sacramento, so I can stay with my parents in San Francisco most likely, and only take one day off from work to drive up there.  I’m amped.  I think the Irish dance practices along with my half-marathon training will be a great combination.  It does however, mean that I have to skip out on the LA Prostrate 5k which is a bummer.

Tonight, we are going to our friend’s house for dinner.  While we were grocery shopping I picked up some food for lunch today.

The best part?  There are leftovers for lunch tomorrow! 🙂 Win.
